intro: ovarian cancer?!

Hey – thanks for clicking the link/scanning the code/stumbling on my post. If you’re here, you probably know me in real life and I am blown away by how many people are invested in my journey. THANK YOU for your support and love! I’m writing this on December 15, 2023, while sitting in my chair at the infusion center, getting a 6-hour infusion of various drugs.
I have so many people invested in my journey and I have wanted to be open about this from the beginning for two reasons:

  1. To receive support from the people who love and care about me and even from those who just know me in passing
  2. To spread awareness about ovarian cancer and how it can be hidden behind “normal” female body symptoms – bloating, a sudden feeling of fullness after not eating much, distended belly, and fatigue.
  3. Ovarian cancer is becoming more prevalent, but is so much less-known than the more common cancers like breast or skin cancer. I want to make the symptoms more well-known so more people can catch it sooner because they are just so common. In fact, most ovarian cancer diagnoses aren’t made until late stage III or even stage IV.

I want to make it very clear that I am not a doctor and am not trying to be. I DO want to spread information that comes from my doctor, my medical team, and other reliable sources so that more people can be aware of this disease and that we can have a higher remission rate. What I’ll be sharing here is my own experience and at times may be a raw look into the realities of a cancer diagnosis and subsequent treatment. I’m glad you’re here and I’d love you to ask any questions in the comment section, if you have them.
